Tirana court will decide on September 19 about the conclusions of the defense against the former KLA fighter Dritan Goxhaj.

Lawyer Ardian Visha showed the reasons why the court should not allow the extradition.

“The first issue that is very important is that of a political nature. An extradition request signed by the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Kosovo is missing. Gjoxhaj is wanted to be extradited to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, not to the territory of Kosovo. An extradition report has a sacred principle in its construction, which is the right of the land and the individual who is promised to be sent to the requesting country must be brought within the geographical boundary of that country, so the offense addressed to Dritan is undefined why is it criminal,” said Visha.

An international prosecutor was present at the session on account of the extradition request to The Hague.

We remind you that Dritan Goxhaj was arrested on July 31, 2023 with an arrest warrant issued by the Special Court of Kosovo for the purpose of extradition to The Hague.

The former KLA fighter is accused of revealing the names of witnesses in several cases previously opened by the Special Prosecutor’s Office of Kosovo.

Goxhaj is suspected of being charged with the criminal offenses of obstructing the work of officials and intimidation of witnesses under the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kosovo.
