In a remarkable tale of adventure, resilience, and unconventional travel, one man has embarked on a decade-long journey, traversing the globe without the company of his wife and without setting foot on an airplane.

Thor Pedersen’s travels have taken him to an astonishing 203 countries, showcasing his insatiable wanderlust.

What sets his journey apart is the fact that he has accomplished this remarkable feat without the use of airplanes, relying solely on alternative modes of transportation.

From bustling metropolises to remote corners of the world, his journey has allowed him to experience a wide range of landscapes, traditions, and people. Each destination has provided unique insights and memories that have enriched his life.

However, undertaking such a unique and ambitious journey comes with its own set of challenges.

The 44-year-old Dane encountered various obstacles during his “Once Upon A Saga” project, including navigating vast distances, enduring long hours on trains, buses, and ships, and meticulously planning his routes to connect countries seamlessly.

Speaking to “Good Morning Albanians” on Euronews Albania, Pedersen shared the country he has deemed unsafe during his travels.

“The Central African Republics or South Sudan are places where the government does not have full control and there are different groups fighting each-other. In these countries, when you get to the right place, you are not sure of your safety.”

Albania became the 132nd country Pedersen visited back in August 2017.

Throughout this remarkable journey, Pedersen’s wife has been absent by his side. Their unique approach to marriage further reinforces the strength of their relationship and the individual pursuits they both cherish. Their story exemplifies the importance of supporting one another’s dreams and passions, even if they involve unconventional paths.

“My partner is a strong woman. She participated in two important competitions while I was traveling. She visited me 27 times in countries around the world. We have been married for ten years. However, we’ve only stayed together for a year.”

In an era where air travel has become the norm, the story of Pedersen’s ten-year journey without ever stepping on a plane offers a fresh perspective on travel and exploration.

His extraordinary adventure, visiting 203 countries and embracing diverse cultures while avoiding air travel, showcases the transformative power of alternative modes of transportation and the resilience of the human spirit.
