Fewer students in cultural branches, 65.4% of students in arts and journalism are girls

Fields of study related to culture are losing students year after year.

According to the data published by INSTAT, in the academic year 2022-23, in “Arts”, “Human Sciences”, “Languages”, “Journalism and Information”, and “Architecture and Construction” which are considered fields related to culture, 14,530 students were registered, which make up 12.0% of the total registrations for this academic year.

This figure has been decreasing over the last 3 years. From 14.5% in 2020, to 13% in 2021 and 12% in 2022.

“Architecture and Construction” and “Languages” are the most preferred fields of study by students, respectively with 40.3% and 30%.

Culture-related branches are more preferred by girls, who make up 65.4% of students.

The percentage of girls is higher in the fields “Language” with 83.6%, “Journalism and information” 77.6% and “Humanities” 75.1% and lower in the field “Architecture and construction”, where they make up 51.3% of students in this field.
