Difficult hours were experienced today by the residents of the Dropull area. The fires that engulfed the pastures in this area endangered the villages of Frashtan, Lugar and Grapsh, while the flames came very close to the houses.  Due to the smoke and soot, the circulation of vehicles on the national road Gjirokastra-Kakavije was also suspended.

The intervention of the civil emergency, the firefighters of Gjirokastra, Përmet, Tepelena, Dropull, the residents of the area who were also supported by the helicopter to extinguish the fires made it possible to avoid the danger to the residents and their material wealth.

“We had taken all measures with an evacuation plan, but in order not to arrive there, we had to save people, save public and private property, and my appeal is precisely for this,” said prefect Odise Kote.

It is suspected that the cause of the fire is a deliberate arson in the pastures of the area. Today, the local police arrested a resident of the village of Frashtan, suspected of being the cause of the recent fires in Dropull.
