Prime Minister Edi Rama, through a post on Instagram, shared a video from the film “Ismail’s Dilemma.” Rama writes that the film will soon be broadcast for the Albanian public, emphasizing that it bears witness to the strength of Albanian besa (the sacred code of honor and keeping one’s word).

The film is based on a true story recorded in the village of Shëngjergj, where a family refuses to hand over two Jews to the Germans whom they had sheltered. In order not to break their besa, the head of the family is executed by the Germans together with the village priest.

“The film ‘Ismail’s Dilemma.’ The film will be broadcast for the first time very soon for the Albanian public. A story based on true events that took place in the village of Shëngjergj, Tirana, which testifies to the strength of Albanian Besa and humanism in the darkest times.

The role of Shkurta, played by actress Delinda Disha, brings one of the heaviest human sacrifices: in order not to dishonor the family and not to break the Besa, she sacrifices her husband, who is taken by the Germans to be executed together with the village priest.

A Muslim family that gave its Besa to two Jewish friends, refusing to hand them over to the Germans, despite the tragic consequences.

The role of Ismail is played by the internationally renowned actor Arben Bajraktaraj. Script and direction: Dhimitër Ismailaj & Valona Ismailaj,” Rama wrote.
