The wildfire that broke out 4 days ago, in the area known as Mali i Thate or Dry Mountain, in Pogradec has been rapidly spreading during the night and is now threatening to reach the National Park of Galiçica.
According to reports, a 10-member rescue team headed to the area in the early hours of the morning, followed by additional firefighters, civil emergency employees, public workers, volunteers from protected sites organizations and locals.
The fire has scorched a large surface area and is now heading towards a dense oak forest. A call for help has been issued by locals directed at rescue teams from the commune of Ohrid, but they have yet to give an official response.
The blaze has been ravaging for the past 4 days, and in the last 24 hours it has been encouraged by the winds that have been gradually picking up.
Authorities have reported that there’s a chance that the cause of the fire might have been intentional, pointing to local shepherds as the possible culprits.
