Fires in apartments are the biggest problem faced by the Elbasan fire brigade during the winter period.

7 to 10 cases of house fire are recorded every month in the Municipality of Elbasan during the winter, while the main cause remains gas cylinders unsuitable for indoor environments. In fewer cases, fires in apartments have been caused by electrical sparks and this is due to the overload of the heating network.

“We have had problems with fires in apartments, and this is due to electrical overloads, forgetting about resistors, cooking, and gas cylinders. They are a big problem for citizens in their houses, especially the small 5L gas canisters, which are for camping”, said Enver Qepa, official of the Fire Department in Elbasan.

In Elbasan, fortunately there were no injuries from the fires, but the material damage was great.

“There have been other cases, two rooms were burned, the kitchen was burned and the other room was saved. But it is understood that fire causes damage, and what burns burns, and the other room smokes, then the equipment must be removed. Where there is a fire, it is known that the damage is great, but fortunately we did not have cases of deaths, and this is the main thing for us”, said Enver Qepa, an officer of the Fire Department in Elbasan.

Specialists advise for increased caution mainly for those who use gas cylinders in their house.

“Gas is very dangerous and anyone who carries gas should put a sign to signal gas leakage. And when there is a leak, it alerts you, and informs you that it has a problem. They do not meet these conditions and risk”, continued Enver Qepa, an officer of the Fire Department in Elbasan.

The most recent case of a house fire was in the “11 Nëntori” neighborhood, where the entrance to a building was completely burned down as a result of an electrical spark.
