An immersive exhibition with paintings from the Zengo sisters was held in Korça, the first such exhibition in the entire region. Paintings were displayed in the multimedia hall of the city, in a mobile form, with animated videos, a rarity for the Albanian public.

The Zengo dynasty is important for the Albanian visual art, with a special contribution to iconography and painting, says professor and historian Pandi Bello.

“They are two very important visual art artists in Albania, not only because of their biography. They are the first female painters of Albania, coming from a family tradition of Dardha and Korça. We are dealing with a great heritage of old Byzantine and post-Byzantine ecclesiastical art.”

“The exhibition is definitely very important. It is happening for the first time in the entire region. This is a trend such as in the virtual museum of Van Gogh, traveling from Athens to Paris. There is the case of Frida Kahlo, we have created a special parallelism with this artist. She did not paint her anxieties, but her reality. The Zengos have done the same,” says the exhibition’s curator, Ardian Isufi.

The exhibition will be open to the public for nearly a month. Everyone can visit Korça and have the opportunity to see the works of the first Albanian female painters in video animation.
