The opening of the gates of the Banja Hydropower Plant has caused the Devoll River to overflow its banks. As a result, the Kuçova landfill has been completely flooded.
The water has also caused damage to local farmers and livestock breeders. A pig farm located near the landfill was flooded, resulting in major material losses. Farmer Pëllumb Braushi stated that the water rose rapidly during the night. He and his wife tried to save the piglets, but were unable to do so due to the strong current and the continuously rising water level.
According to him, around 100 pigs died inside the facility, while the remaining animals are also at risk of dying, as they remained underwater for several hours.
Meanwhile, the damage caused by the flooding in the municipalities of Dimal and Kuçova is reported to be significant. Authorities say that working groups have been set up to assess and verify the damage on the ground.
