When more than 1 month has passed since the floods that affected the city of Vlora, the working groups are in the final phase of damage assessment.

As for the 352 affected families, the civil defense in the city hall concluded that the value of the compensation is 65 million ALL. As for businesses, there is still no clear picture of the value of the damages.

“Since the flood, assessment groups have been on the ground; we are almost at a final stage and we have approximately a concrete figure of the financial value of the damages caused. There are about 352 damaged families; in a preliminary estimate, the financial cost is around 65 million new ALL. As for the part of the businesses, I have a calculation for the businesses that the Regional Directorate of Taxes takes, and they will issue the costs of damages to these businesses”, says Ardian Vreshtazi, the director of Civil Protection in the Municipality of Vlora.

But even though the value of the damages has appeared on paper only for the families affected by the floods, the municipality still does not have enough funds to carry out the process. According to the director of civil defense, the municipality has requested the help of the government.

“The municipality of Vlora does not have financial opportunities, as it is a limited fund that I have about 4% of the budget, which was about 20 million new ALL; this figure cannot be afforded by the municipality. For this reason, a request has been made to the central government in order to compensate the financial value of the damages caused by the floods”, he says.

Besides the fact that the procedures are nearing the end, the citizens damaged by the floods do not yet have a date when they will be able to benefit from the compensation.
