On Friday, “For the DP”, a faction within the Democratic Party, officially submitted two candidates, namely Edith Harxhi and Ibsen Elezi, who will try to win the race and become the new leader of the Democratic Party.

“We are hereby presenting some essential requests that guarantee a free and fair race, despite the brief time imposed unilaterally by the presidency of the Democratic Party”, said Harxhi.

• Provide candidates with the full membership list of the Democratic Party, no later than May 24.
• Review the composition of the Electoral Commission, including on a branch level.
• Compile an agenda for the joint meeting of candidates with DP members, to unveil the political platform and hold open discussions.
•  The Organizational Office and branch presidencies must put at the disposal of the candidates all the infrastructure and administrative resources for the development of the above-mentioned joint meetings ”, it is said in the announcement.

Earlier on, Fatbardh Kadilli also announced to be running for the leadership of the party.

He described the race as “asymmetrical” in front of the current leader Lulzim Basha.
