Shkodra seems to have become a hotspot for all foreign tourists who are visiting Albania this year.
With its picturesque landscapes and enchanting legends, Shkodra is welcoming tourists from all countries of the world.
The first to visit the northern Albanian city come mainly from the Balkans.
Since the country lifted the COVID-19 restrictions a while back, coffee shops, bars and attractions are all open until the 11:00 pm curfew.
Some tourists say that this is the first time they visit Albania, while many others have returned for a second time.
“This is not the first time that I am here, but it is the first time that I visit the castle. I think it represents the Roman Empire, the Byzantine Empire and the Illyrian period. It is very impressive. One of the best castles in the Balkans. We came here from Romania with a tourist group and we are happy to visit Albania. We find very friendly people here,” said one of the tourists.
While for Francesa, another tourist coming from Italy, the city is charming.
“You find pieces from the past wherever you set your foot on,” she says.
The director of the museum of the Rozafa castle, Ndriçim Milka, said that so far this year, more than 15 thousand tourists have visited the castle, a positive figure compared to last year, when countries were forced to shut down because of the pandemic.
