The value of exports in May was 40 billion lek, falling by 12%. The negative effect came from construction materials, metals, minerals, fuels and electricity.
Albania’s exports continued their double-digit decline for the third consecutive month in May, making the entire five-month period turn negative.
Minerals and fuels, together with construction materials and metals have influenced this decline. Textiles have had a more positive pace, however, they remain with minimal growth, while exports of agricultural products and machinery and equipment have recorded the best performance.
According to INSTAT, in May 2023, exports of goods reached the value of 40 billion lek, decreasing by 12 percent, compared to the same period of the previous year.
In this five-month period, exports of goods reached the value of 196 billion lek, decreasing by 5 percent, as a reflection of the drop in the prices of goods in the international markets, but also the devaluation of the euro.
Making the difference with the value of imports that reached 81 billion lek, this month’s trade deficit is 41 billion lek, with an increase of 18%, compared to May 2022.
