The centers of traditional crafts and professions in Gjirokastër are now interesting points of the tourist guide, attracting the attention of foreign visitors.

Characteristic works arouse the curiosity of foreign tourists, some of them want to learn how to work in carved stone or woodcarving. For tourists visiting the stone city, practicing traditional crafts is something attractive and interesting.

“I really feel satisfied when I deal with such works. I think it is a different and quite interesting experience,” said a tourist.

“I believe that it is a detail that should be mentioned about Gjirokastër because it is not only the castle, stone and food, but there are also these types of crafts, which have made the construction of the city possible and these are the basis of preservation and promotion by preserving the knowledge of the crafts we do the possible to keep the culture alive and continue to promote the city,” said the tourist guide, Blerim Topulli.

Artisans say that tourists are interested in the way of making souvenirs and building elements of the Gjirokastër tradition.

“Foreigners mostly come to try a different experience. These two young people that we have today in their profession deal with computers, it is far from that but simply to break their monotony, they come for tourism and try a new experience. The development of tourism is also promoting the return of craftsmanship and characteristic works in Gjirokastër, while this year several new craft centers have opened in the historical area of ​​the city.
