The Albanian government is expected to meet the needs of the labor market by bringing citizens from other countries, but employment experts say that this project is not a solution to the crisis.

According to them, a part of the migrant workers see the contracts in Albania as an opportunity to leave later to the countries of the European Union.

About 40,000 are thought to be vacancies where there is a shortage of manpower. On the other hand, we have a high number of unemployed youth. All this happens because of informality, the lack of work contracts, low wages and seasonal work is what prevents young Albanians from working in Albania and moving towards neighboring countries.

“They should think about off-season employment, this kind of practice happens in Greece. It continues and keeps them with a minimum wage beyond the season” – emphasized Edison Hoxha.

Replacing Albanian employees with foreigners is not in favor of the industries in Albania. This is because even foreigners will not stay long, being part of the informal market.

Even those who come from abroad will work for a period of time and will see Albania as a springboard for the EU countries, just as it happened, the facts have shown that after getting used to the market here, the conditions and again they will demand the rights that are missing for the employees in Albania and they will aim to leave as is the case with the Albanians.

From 2019-2022, 10,752 foreigners received a residence permit for work reasons in Albania. From the businesses in Albania, these employees are offered, in addition to the salary, accommodation and in some cases transport to the workplace. Such costs are many times higher, compared to the salary of an Albanian employee.
