The Special Prosecution Against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK) has announced the seizure of an apartment owned by the former Minister of Health, Ilir Beqja.
The apartment is located in the area of Lungomare in Vlora and is suspected to be a “hidden” asset of the former minister.
After the inspection carried out in July 2024, the investigators have discovered data suggesting that the apartment, along with its investment and furnishing expenses, were not declared according to the law. From the documents, it appears that in 2016, a contract for the apartment was concluded between the construction company R…K… sh.p.k. and an individual with the initials I.F., Beqaj’s close social connection.
Meanwhile, the furnishing and investments for the apartment were carried out by Beqaj and his wife until 2019, with a value of over 5 million ALL.
According to SPAK, in February 2020, a lease contract was formally concluded between the state I.F. and Beqaj’s wife, but the data suggest that the apartment was freely used by Beqaj’s family, which acted as the owner. Investigators suspect that this deal is a maneuver to hide ownership.
Based on these facts, the Special Prosecutor’s Office requested the imposition of the property insurance measure “preventive sequestration” for this property, a request which was approved by the Special Court with Decision No. 539, dated 20.09.2024.
The decision was executed by the National Bureau of Investigation in cooperation with the Local Police Directorate of Vlora.
The seized apartment has an area of 90.8 m², a veranda of 61.2 m² and a common area of 13.7 m². The prosecution continues the investigations to verify the origin of this property of the arrested former minister.
