The Court Against Organized Crime and Corruption in Albania has found the former Mayor of Bulqiza, Lefter Alla, guilty and sentenced him to three years in prison for the charges of abuse of duty, violation of equality in tenders, and forgery.

The former mayor will serve only 2 years in prison due to the expedited trial. Eight other individuals were also found guilty.

The former mayor is suspected of favoring two companies in collaboration with other former officials during the public procurement procedure. The aim was for the other company, under the administration of Aqif Konesha, to carry out the water supply works later on. This relates to the tender “Construction of the supply network and distribution network Water Supply and construction of the KUZ network, Old Quarter, Bulqiza city, Bulqiza Municipality”, worth around 3 million euros, with a 10-month deadline.

Alla was arrested on March 15, 2023, along with 12 other individuals, 7 of whom were municipality officials. They were charged with violating equality in tenders and abusing their duties in connection with suspicions of abuse in a 3-million-euro tender.
