July 27 will be the hearing date set by the Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime in a case involving former defense minister Fatmir Mediu and the Gerdec explosion.
The High Court deemed that it did not have the competence to rule over the matter and transferred the case against the former minister to the First Instance Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime.
The move came after the Special Prosecution demanded from the High Court to initiate the proceedings on Mediu, in relation to the 2008 explosion that took place at an ex-ammunition depot.
In 2009, Mediu was acquitted as he had immunity granted by the fact that he was still a lawmaker in the Albanian parliament.
The grave incident claimed the lives of 26 citizens, while more than a hundred were injured.
