On Monday, July 3, former United States President Bill Clinton will arrive in Tirana.
During his first visit to Albania upon the invitation of Prime Minister Edi Rama, Clinton will have a meeting with the Albanian premier, who will express gratitude for Clinton’s contribution to Albania and Kosovo.
This visit coincides with the celebration of the Independence Day of the United States, which Clinton will celebrate in Tirana.
A few days ago, Prime Minister Edi Rama announced that there would be a big surprise on July 4, which is the arrival of Bill Clinton in Tirana.
Former prime minister Sali Berisha welcomed the arrival of Clinton, during his weekly press conference, considering the former U.S. President as a national hero for the role he played in the liberation of Kosovo.
“Whenever he comes to Albania, he comes as a national hero. He is engraved in the memory of this nation as one of the greatest friends,” said Berisha.
Clinton served as the 42nd President of the United States from 1993 to 2001. During his tenure, NATO airstrikes on Serbia were carried out, paving the way for Kosovo’s independence.
On March 24, 1999, the former U.S. President announced to the American people that the U.S. would join NATO allies in intervening in Kosovo.
Meanwhile, Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte will visit Serbia and Kosovo together with Luxembourg’s Prime Minister Xavier Bettel on Monday, July 3, and Tuesday, July 4.
According to the official announcement from the Dutch Government, the visit will provide an opportunity to discuss the escalating tensions between Serbia and Kosovo and the importance of de-escalation and commitment to the EU-led dialogue for the normalization of relations.
Prime Minister Rutte and Prime Minister Bettel are expected to have a meeting with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, where they will discuss the latest developments in the region, the war in Ukraine, and migration. They will also be received by Prime Minister Brnabić and will meet with Serbian NGOs focusing on press freedom and LGBT+ issues.
On Tuesday, Prime Minister Rutte and Prime Minister Bettel will be in Pristina, and will be received by President Vjosa Osmani. They will also have a meeting with Prime Minister Albin Kurti, to discuss the latest developments in the region and the war in Ukraine. They will also have a discussion with representatives of Kosovar NGOs focusing on press freedom and LGBT+ issues.
