A former US soldier is donating $5.000 to the University of Prishtina. Elaine Berkowitz is making the donation to the stomatology department at the Medicine Faculty.

Naser Sahiti, the university’s rector thanked Berkowitz for the donation and said that the equipment will improve the conditions of stomatology students.

Meanwhile, professor of stomatology Agim Islami, apart from thanking Berkowitz also recalled the time when she was deployed in Kosovo.

The 77-year old US Army veteran went beyond her duty as a member of the US Army during her service in Kosovo. She began lecturing stomatology and helped out students who wanted to become dentists or physicians.

In a recently published book, she said that she felt proud to have helped the people of Kosovo during her spare time.

“I did everything I could because they really needed some American expertise. I would serve there again if they’d call me”, Berkowitz said.

During her military service in Kosovo, Berkowitz stayed at Camp Bondsteel, the largest American military base in Europe.
