Albanian referees continue to climb the ranks on the international stage, and recently, there’s good news from UEFA. For the first time in history, a quartet of Albanian referees will officiate a group stage match in the most prestigious club competition, the Champions League.
The Communication Department at the Albanian Football Federation (FSHF) announced that the referees Enea Jorgji as the main referee, assisted by Denis Rexha and Ridiger Çokaj as assistants, along with Florian Lata as the fourth official, will officiate the Group G match between Young Boys and Leipzig, scheduled for September 19 in Switzerland.
This is another excellent piece of news and a success for Albanian refereeing and the Albanian Football Federation, receiving such recognition from UEFA. It once again confirms the growth of Albanian refereeing and representation at high levels of European and world football.
Enea Jorgji has been promoted by the UEFA Referees Committee to the first category, and with his performances in Europe, he aims to reach the highest level of refereeing, the “Elite” category, which is, in fact, the goal for all those who start a career as a referee.
In the past, Albanian referees have officiated important international matches, including elimination rounds or international friendlies, but not UEFA Champions League group stage matches.
