The Ministry of Citizen Protection in Greece announced the arrest of four members of the Greek police who are accused “of torture and other insults to human dignity with collaboration” against an Albanian prisoner.

The arrest was made by the Internal Affairs Service of the Security Forces and the four policemen were sent to the competent prosecutor’s office, according to the official announcement.

“As the result of the investigation, the arrested, an officer, 2 policemen and the special guard, charged with the responsibility of guarding and transferring prisoners to the institution serving the sentence, committed acts of beating and torture against a foreign prisoner”, it is stated in the notification of the Ministry of Citizen Protection.

According to official Greek sources, “the clothes of the prisoner were confiscated and were also examined by the doctor”, writes VOA.

The Greek media reported that the prisoner was an Albanian, convicted of drugs and robbery, and was being transferred from Thessaloniki to the high security prison of Koridhalos in Athens. According to the Greek media, the Albanian prisoner testified that while he was in the “prison vehicle” where he was being transferred, he was brutally hit on the head by the police, and although he asked for water on the way, he was not given it. The Albanian prisoner also stated, according to Greek media, that when he arrived at Koridhalos prison in Athens, they put a helmet on his head so that the blows to his head could not be seen.
