On the occasion of the fourth anniversary of the war in Ukraine, the Embassy of Ukraine in Tirana held a commemorative ceremony at Skanderbeg Square in honor of the victims and as a sign of solidarity with the Ukrainian people.

Present at the ceremony were the European Union Ambassador to Albania, Silvio Gonzato, and other representatives. In his speech, Gonzato stated that peace must be established in Ukraine and that Russian aggression must come to an end.

“This is a day I remember very well. After four years of war, we are determined to look ahead to 2026, when Russian aggression must end. The EU is determined and seeks peace in Ukraine — a long-term peace. While Ukraine has consistently demonstrated its desire for peace, Russia has opposed it. Peace must be just, lasting, and accompanied by long-term security guarantees. Russia’s claims are contradictory — they speak of peace while continuing to attack infrastructure. We cannot grant them a victory.

Peace and integrity are fundamental commitments to the security of all states. If aggression is normalized, territorial integrity becomes negotiable. A lasting peace in Ukraine is critical. Accountability for the suffering must also be ensured. The European Union will continue to support efforts to guarantee accountability and will maintain diplomatic pressure until peace is secured. The Ukrainian people are showing heroic resilience. Ukrainians deserve our full support. We thank Albania for its support. It is important that in these times, EU countries and those on the path to integration demonstrate unity in actions and objectives. It is time not to hesitate in promoting our shared rules,” he said.
