The elected Mayor of Himara Municipality, Fredi Beleri, reacted to the delay in the Supreme Court’s review of the decision of the Court of First Instance of Durrës, regarding the swearing-in.

In a press release, he says that these unprecedented delays with very serious consequences for the Community of Himara, voters and residents who are waiting for change in local government, expressed by free will through voting, are being held hostage without any legal reference.

He further accused the judges of neglecting procedural deadlines and distorting the law.

“Although almost 30 days have passed since the decision of the Court of First Instance of Durrës, which sent it to the Supreme Court for review, in order to interpret which Court is competent to review my request to be provided with a special permit/authorization in order to swear in, there is still no answer or trial date.

Although the case was registered in the Supreme Court on 16.10.2023 and this Court has the duty to express itself within 5 days to determine the competent court that will consider my request for granting permission / special authorization to be sworn in as Chairman of Himara Municipality, with extreme indifference, the Relator Judge keeps the case blocked.

These unprecedented delays with very serious consequences for the Community of Himara, the voters and the residents who are waiting for the change in the local government, expressed by free will through the vote, are being held hostage without any legal reference.

These judges who neglect the procedural deadlines and distort the law, unfortunately happened even at the top of the justice system in Albania as members of the Supreme Court, are actually prolonging the life of the Mayor who is most corrupt and hated by the people of Himara in 30 years of pluralism.

These “forgettings” with my file, including the previous decisions that are completely absurd and not based on the law, contrary to the basic principles sanctioned in the Constitution where Sovereignty in the Republic of Albania belongs to the people and the people exercise sovereignty through their representatives or directly, decisions that have denied me the right that the sovereign has given me by vote, have only one explanation: segments of justice have been put at the service of politics and in defense of the corrupt local government system in Himara.

I want to remind all of you that this legal battle is not for me as an individual nor for the post of Mayor, but for Himara, free vote and democracy!
