February 14th marks Valentine’s Day, a day when people express their love for one another through various gifts.

This Friday, the capital was filled with flowers and balloons, traditional symbols of this holiday for couples.

However, love is not expressed in just one day. This couple shares that for them, every day has been Valentine’s Day for the past 35 years.

“We came out to buy a gift,” said a citizen.

“We’ve been together for 35 years. He has given me everything, and every year we are happy with the four children that God has blessed us with,” said a woman.

People shared the gifts they had received and given, while others were still expecting surprises.

One young man mentioned that he had gifted perfumes, while the most expensive gift he had ever given was a phone.

A young woman said she was expecting gifts and that one of the most valuable presents she had received was a gold bracelet.

Although this day is widely known around the world as a celebration of romance and love, its origins trace back to the story of Saint Valentine of Rome. He was imprisoned for secretly officiating marriages for soldiers who were forbidden from starting families.

Valentine’s Day, as a celebration of love, began to flourish in English royal courts in the 14th century, when modern traditions associated with it are believed to have started.

In the following centuries, the holiday became increasingly popular, taking the form it has today—with gifts, flowers, and love letters.
