Linda Rama, the activist and intellectual, who has been the better half of the Prime minister of Albania, Edi Rama, for the past 11 years, was invited by journalist Ilva Tare to speak on Euronews Albania about the dynamics of her life in the harsh Albanian political arena, as well as her career and family challenges.

When asked regarding the choice to analyze her public appearances thoroughly and strive to stay away from frequent apparencies, Mrs. Rama explained that this choice is intentional and well thought-out.

“I have been more visible until the moment, I married Edi and started to live with him. From an always professional perspective, I have been much more active, but in any way, I have had to modify something in my whole approach on public disclosure.

“In order to avoid any kind of misunderstanding but also to respect the people’s will, because this is the truth, they have chosen Edi to be the protagonist, they have chosen Edi to experiment in all his forms and Edi is much more beneficial to people in this aspect, so I have decided to let this arena to Edi, and it’s what I have done,” she added.

The activist added that she has chosen to use the social media network Twitter as her only social platform to communicate with the public, regarding cases she sees as most important.

Even though according to Linda Rama the political and public climate that surrounds the prime ministerial family can often be very challenging, despite the mental preparation, many attacks from political opponents will still come your way.

“The moment I started living with Edi, I married Edi in 2010 and it is well-known that during that period for many years, Edi was in the focus of many attacks and many accusations, which in fact, in many cases took unimaginable turns, by sacrificing and not taking into consideration women, or the deceased or even children. This was the climate and I had decided and I knew I had decided to spend my life with a man, who had a very clear political vocation and at the same time, he was a man with an expectation and ambition to become the Prime minister of Albania,” declared Mrs. Rama.

Mrs. Rama also spoke on the fact that despite the year-long experience in facing these attacks, Rama has been deeply concerned about the consequences of such attacks on the people closest to him.

Linda Rama also spoke during her interview with Ilva Tare, about the fact that since the first day she became the spouse of the Prime Minister of the country, she decided to refuse many of the public services that were offered to the prime minister’s family, with the desire to willingly choose simplicity over what are harshly seen by the public opinion, as privileges.

“Since the first day, in order to avoid exactly what you say, these privileges… as soon as I was given the chance, I refused the entire service team that was put at our disposal to serve the prime minister’s family and I insisted that this service team be moved to the Prime ministry because that’s where the prime minister spends long hours,” stated Mrs. Rama.

Mrs. Rama continued by saying that she still accompanies her son Zaho to school, everyday and this is one of the most beautiful parts of the day for her, which she will never give up on.

Linda Rama also disclosed the fact that she doesn’t have any security guards and that she has consciously decided to not accompany her husband on his international visits, apart from the case, where her presence in his visits is needed for protocolary reasons.
