The negotiating teams of Montenegro and the European Union reached an agreement, according to which the entire border of Montenegro with its neighbors will be secured by officers of the European Union Border and Coast Guard Agency – FRONTEX, together with the police and the Montenegrin army.
“FRONTEX will be on all the borders of Montenegro with the neighboring countries and not, as before, only on the border with Croatia, which is a state of the European Union”, said the Minister of Internal Affairs of Montenegro, Fillip Axic, at the meeting of the government of this country, on May 11.
Since February of this year, negotiations have continued for FRONTEX to extend its jurisdiction to the borders with Albania, Kosovo, Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
According to the previous agreement, from 2020, FRONTEX has assisted Montenegro in controlling its borders with European Union members Croatia and Italy, especially in situations of increased flow of migrants from the Middle East and conflict zones.
