Revenues from the circulation tax, which is levied at the fuel pump, reached 190 million euros in 2023. The amount is 7% higher than in 2022 and is dictated by the increase in oil consumption.
The state budget collected 190 million euros from sales tax last year with an annual increase of 7%.
The increase in income was dictated by the increase in fuel consumption, which reached 615 thousand tons during customs clearance. The turnover tax on diesel and gasoline is 27 ALL per liter.
In 2023, the Ministry of Finance had planned to collect 205 million euros from the turnover tax, but 190 million have been collected, with a non-realization amounting to 15 million euros.
The road tax collects revenue from transport users and the tax is levied on the purchase of fuel, for every liter consumed and it is then distributed to road construction and maintenance.
The circulation tax is only 1 of the 7 taxes that are levied from the consumption of fuels and that goes to the state coffers together with the excise tax, the carbon tax and the relicensing tax. Meanwhile, branding and scanning are temporary taxes that go to the concessionaire companies.
