The German Embassy in Kosovo has announced that, commencing January 1, 2024, individuals holding Kosovo passports will enjoy visa-free travel to the Schengen Area for short-term stays.
As per the Embassy’s communication, “Beginning January 1, 2024, holders of Kosovo passports will have the opportunity to travel to the Schengen Area without requiring short-term visas”.
The Embassy’s notice also underscores that visa-free travel permits individuals to embark on trips without the need for visas for short stays. This includes tourism, visiting family or friends, participating in cultural or sporting events, attending business meetings, seeking medical treatment, or enrolling in short-term educational programs like seminars, conferences, workshops, summer schools, and similar activities.
“During any 180-day period, you may stay for up to 90 days within the Schengen Area. If you engage in multiple journeys, it is important to carefully calculate the duration of your stay since your total stay duration must not exceed 90 days within a 180-day period. The calculation begins from your initial entry into any Schengen zone,” clarifies the German Embassy.
Furthermore, the Embassy emphasizes that improper use of this privilege can result in future entry denials. This may occur if an individual exceeds the 90-day limit within a 180-day period, engages in unauthorized employment, poses a threat to public safety, or is involved in criminal activities.
“Abuse or overstaying may lead to financial penalties and subsequent deportation, along with entry bans to the Schengen Area for up to 5 years.”
