A 30-year-old German man who fatally shot his former partner’s Kosovar Albanian boyfriend, has been sentenced to life imprisonment. The incident occurred in Freiburg-Betzenhausen.

The chamber of the Freiburg State Court concluded that the victim had been intentionally shot in the chest. The victim, aged 31, passed away in the hospital.

Upon the verdict, relatives of the victim and his former partner burst into applause.

The court accepted the prosecution’s decision, which had previously sought a life sentence for murder with aggravating circumstances.

The convicted individual remained silent as the verdict was delivered, but as the presiding judge was reading the reasoning, the 30-year-old defendant lay down and wept. His attorneys stated that they will appeal the decision.

The tragic event occurred in January of this year, in front of the German citizen’s former partner’s residence in Freiburg.

The 30-year-old had a child with his former partner, who had separated from him and started a new relationship with the Kosovar Albanian man.

At the time of the crime, the accused had gone to meet his daughter, whose custody was with her mother.

Both his former partner and the daughter wanted no contact with the 30-year-old after their separation, despite his persistent attempts.

The victim tried to distance the perpetrator when he appeared in front of his former partner’s residence.

However, the 30-year-old German man drew a pistol he was carrying and fired at the Kosovar Albanian man.

In his testimony, the accused stated that he intended to shoot the victim only in the leg to intimidate him. He added that he held the gun higher out of fear of hitting his daughter.

Meanwhile, the victim and his partner have a son together, who had his first birthday on the day of the crime.
