Germany and the United Kingdom have welcomed Damascus’s decision to recognize Kosovo as an independent and sovereign state.

A day earlier, during her visit to Riyadh, Kosovo’s President Vjosa Osmani announced that the agreement on Syria’s recognition of Kosovo had been reached with the support of Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud.

The German Ambassador to Kosovo, Rainer Rudolph, congratulated President Osmani and the people of Kosovo on this achievement.
“I am pleased to see this new dynamic. Germany has always supported Kosovo’s independence and sovereignty,” he wrote on social media.

For the British Ambassador to Kosovo, Jonathan Hargreaves, Syria’s recognition marks an “important step for Kosovo’s international standing and its Euro-Atlantic journey.”
“The United Kingdom has proudly stood by Kosovo since day one and continues to encourage all countries to join the growing consensus in support of Kosovo’s independence,” he wrote on social media.

According to him, Kosovo’s recognition as an independent state is important because it “strengthens peace, stability, and cooperation across the Western Balkans.”
