The “Apostol Meksi” Library in Gjirokastër opened a book exhibition on International Mother Language Day. The event featured dictionaries, linguistic studies, and Albanological publications dedicated to the mother tongue.
“On the occasion of International Mother Language Day, the ‘Apostol Meksi’ Library opened a book exhibition presenting a variety of publications such as dictionaries, linguistic and Albanological studies,” said Anisa Bashari, a librarian.
This library holds around 120,000 volumes, attracting readers of various professions and age groups.
“Reader attendance is regular, with people of different ages, including students, pupils, and regular library members. They mostly prefer fiction books and novels. There are also researchers who prefer academic works and literary criticism, as well as students who look for books included in their study programs,” she added.
International Mother Language Day was proclaimed by UNESCO in 1999 with the aim of protecting linguistic diversity.
