Gjirokastra Castle is the cultural heritage destination most visited by tourists throughout the year in Albania. On Wednesday, the 200 thousandth tourist visiting the Argjiro fortress since the beginning of the year was registered, while the average number of daily visitors is around 1800 tourists.
“I am from Belgium, it is the first time I come to Albania, it is very beautiful, it is the second day here and we are surprised by the beautiful nature, also this castle and I recommend that it should be visited,” – u says a tourist.
“I come from the Czech Republic and we planned to spend the holidays here and we are visiting the special architecture of this city, which is really a wonderful city along with this castle,” said another.
“Gjirokastra Castle is one of the most well-maintained monuments in all of Albania, a monument that certainly has valuable historical values for the history of civilization and Albania, but I would say that what attracts the most tourists who come to Gjirokastra is also because the castle of Gjirokastra is among the only monuments that is protected by UNESCO and is also among the most advertised monuments in other countries,” explained the tourist guide, Monika Mehneti.
The structures of cultural heritage in Gjirokastër, even in this autumn period, are intervening for the maintenance of the castle and the orientation of tourists.
“On the part of the Regional Directorate of Cultural Heritage, during all this time, all measures have been taken for the maintenance of this monument, for the orientation of visitors, as well as for the increase of security elements,” – said the director of DRTK, Gjirokastër, Ardis Duka.
Gjirokastra Castle is one of the historical monuments and cultural heritage values, not only for Albania, but also for the international tourist market.
