The 18th anniversary of the inclusion of the city of Gjirokastra in the World Cultural Heritage List of UNESCO was celebrated with a series of activities.

On July 15, 2005, Gjirokastra became part of the world heritage values listed by UNESCO, marking a special date for the promotion and revitalization of its architectural and historical elements.

The invaluable museum values of Gjirokastra were presented through exhibited photographs during the weekend.

“On the occasion of the 18th anniversary of Gjirokastra’s inclusion in UNESCO, the Municipality has organized the ‘Stone and Wood’ activities, symbolizing the characteristics of our city. As part of this event, we have organized photography exhibitions of stone carvers and woodcarvers. These exhibitions were presented in the characteristic surroundings of the Obelisk and the Bazaar,” Ervina Saliaj, Tourism Manager in the Municipality of Gjirokastra told Euronews Albania.

Currently, the architectural values of Gjirokastra are attracting an increasing number of tourists, becoming valuable resources for boosting the local economy.
