Today in Gjirokastra, a series of activities were held in honor of December 4, 1912, the date when the patriots of Gjirokastra unfurled the flag of Independence over the stone walls of the centuries-old fortress. The municipality of Gjirokastra organized the ceremony of raising the national flag in the grounds of the castle. Those present revoked the contribution of the Girokastra’s patriots in the service of the national issue and the prosperity of the country.

“In this not only beautiful place but in this place where history is written, the history not only of the South but of all Albania, the revivalists, the patriots of Gjirokastra, Hasan Dzhiku and not only all his friends, the men, the patriots of these three raised the flag , the flag of Independence, the flag that Ismail Qemali took to Vlora on November 28”, said Flamur Golemi, mayor of Gjirokastra Municipality.

Tributes were also held at the statue of the patriot Hasan Dzhiku. During the month of November, numerous artistic and cultural activities were organized in Gjirokastra, which will continue even in the atmosphere of the year-end holidays.
