The security measure imposed three months ago by the Government of Kosovo for Serbian goods has had the effect of increasing imports from Albania and North Macedonia.
Products from Serbia are also being replaced by products from the European Union.
According to the latest report of the Kosovo Statistics Agency, CEFTA countries in July 2023 reached 73.9 million euros, or 14.4% of total imports, with a decrease of 16.4%. According to this report, the countries with the highest import share were: North Macedonia (5.9%), Albania (5.4%), Serbia (1.3%).
However, economic experts demand that the measure against Serbian products be analyzed by the Government, as according to them, this is to the detriment of the country. Although according to the business community in Kosovo, some international brands, especially from Germany, Italy, the United States of America and Turkey, operate in Serbia and export to Kosovo.
Meanwhile, as far as this issue is concerned, the American Chamber of Commerce in Kosovo has reacted, which has urgently asked the Government of the Republic of Kosovo to reconsider the measures that limit imports from Serbia, and which hinder international commercial interests, by restricting the circulation of goods from world-renowned brands.
