Ramush Haradinaj, head of the ‘Alliance for the Future of Kosovo’ party, told for the media that he has read the draft Statute proposed by the EU for the association of Serbian municipalities in Kosovo. He states that the draft is built on the basis of the constitution of the Republic of Kosovo.
Haradinaj also said that the draft remains to be reviewed by the Constitutional Court, but added that its implementation after the review will be a big step for Kosovo, which will rightly demand for a faster NATO membership.
“The opportunities that the association, the recognition of municipalities with a Serbian majority, understandably refers to the constitution and laws of Kosovo, do not change the responsibilities of the municipalities and the Association does not take from these responsibilities, there are also many facilities that are created in education, in health, in the functioning of opportunities provided by the association.
Our comments on whether we agree with this draft are made after consideration by the Constitutional Court, because in the introduction of the document it is explained that the draft must be reviewed by the Constitutional Court and also any decision related to the creation of the association must be reviewed by the ministry of local government, and to be confirmed by the Constitutional Court.
What is more important to me, I believe that we should say it openly with the implementation after the review in the Constitutional Court, Kosovo takes a big step forward and we can say that this is a big compromise of Kosovo, which stems from an obligation of take years earlier and Kosovo rightly demands a quick procedure for membership in NATO”, said Ramush Haradinaj.
