The Institute of Public Health Care (ISHP) declared that so far, the Delta strain has not been detected in Albania, but authorities are monitoring the situation closely.
“The Institute of Public Health Care informs that until now no cases of the Delta strain have been detected in Albania. Despite the high number of tests, we don’t have any signal of the presence of this variant in our country”, a declaration read.
The Institute came with the statement after claims that two citizens in Gjirokastra had contracted the so-called Delta strain, initially discovered in India.
COVID-19 has claimed the lives of 2,456 citizens in Albania, while the country has logged more than 132,000 positive cases.
In the region, North Macedonia is the first country to have detected 4 cases with the strain initially discovered in India and dubbed as “Delta”.
