History brings tourists to Gjirokastra, foreigners interested in old buildings

In these summer days, Gjirokastra is being visited by a large number of tourists who prefer historical, natural and traditional tourism.

According to tourism specialists, visitors show interest in tourist itineraries that include historical evidence, characteristic buildings and museums.

“The most favorite tourism is historical tourism as Gjirokastra carries history, culture, tradition, there are many museums, historical buildings, the obelisk, the stone bridge of Ali Pasha is one of the most favorite and one of the most historical points of our city”, said Ervina Saliaj, responsible for Tourism in Gjirokastra Municipality.

Local and foreign visitors along the journey choose to get to know the natural landscapes, rich traditions, folklore, characteristic cuisine not only in the city of Gjirokastra but also in the surroundings.

“Traditional tourism has also become popular in recent years, all administrative units have real tourism and show their traditions, be it in cuisine, in clothing, as well as in everything they carry and have”, said Saliaj.

Since the beginning of the year, Gjirokastra has been visited by about 250,000 tourists, most of whom are from different countries of the world.
