The rise in the number of COVID-19 infections has also contributed to a surge in the number of patients being admitted to hospitals. Infective Hospital doctor Migena Qato, told Euronews Albania that the majority of those being admitted to hospital and carrying more severe forms of the disease are unvaccinated.
1 month ago, at the same period of the year, there were a total of 5-10 patients at the Infective Hospital, in Tirana. At the moment, that number has reached 60.
In the past 2 weeks, the number of citizen asking for specialized hospital treatment has been on a constant rise.
“The average number of admissions vary from 8-10. Age-groups that ask for our services the most are from 25 – elderly citizens,” – adds Qato.
The rise of admissions at the Infective Hospital has come as a result of the rise in new daily cases of COVID-19. Currently, there are around 4 000 citizens nationwide, that have contracted the virus and are actively ill, whereas in the past 24 hours, a total of 535 new cases were discovered.
