The leader of the Belarusian opposition, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, spoke in an interview with Euronews Albania about the political situation in Belarus, the importance of Belarus for Europe’s security, and also opened up about her personal life.

She revealed that her husband has been a convicted political prisoner, and she has no information about his whereabouts today. The opposition leader stated that their children ask about their father the most, but they have never received any response or sign from him.

“The last time I spoke with my husband was five years ago, and it was only a five-minute conversation because he had already been sentenced. For the past two years, I have not heard a single word about him. He is now a victim of enforced disappearance. I cannot visit him, I cannot receive letters from him, and I don’t even know if he is alive. I live with this pain all the time.

My children write letters to him, but they get no response. They ask if their father is okay, if he is still alive—it’s an incredibly painful situation. My husband’s imprisonment is my personal pain, but my goal is to free all political prisoners,” said the Belarusian opposition leader.
