The new mayor of the Zubin Potok municipality, Izmir Zeqiri from the Democratic Party of Kosovo, is dedicated to serve all communities without differences.
In an interview to Euronews Albania after winning the elections in the North of Kosovo on April 23rd, Zeqiri said that regardless of the continuous tensions in the north, he does not wish to be identified only as “the Albanian”, but as the man who will equally contribute for each citizen, be it the majority or minority.
“We’ve been participating in each electoral process. This time, I was also part as a candidate and I won. Everybody had the right to be a candidate and to vote. I will give my contribution as a citizen of this area. I take responsibility as mayor. I won’t differentiate through nationalities, I want to be seen as a person who will contribute for everyone, based on what the legal framework Kosovo provides all citizens. That is how I want to be seen. Opinions regarding ‘minority majority’ are having a negative effect,” he said.
The April elections were overshadowed by a boycott of Serbian parties and recorded one of the lowest turnouts ever: only 3.47% of the voters cast their vote.
