Former finances minister, Arber Malaj told Euronews Albania that the new Socialist-led government shouldn’t keep all power to itself.

Malaj brought to the attention the events of ‘97-2005, when SP created a model of dividing power with the opposition at the time, while also not having to compromise its aggressiveness. According to Malaj, this same model is needed today.

“If it wants to build a state, SP needs to divide power. It needs to divide its power with the constitutional institutions and it needs to divide the government too.

If Rama doesn’t divide his power with DP, let him divide it with the wise people of this country, who don’t have to come from the ranks of SP, but they simply need to have integrity and intellect and not be amongst those that just nod their heads and keep pushing our state down a declining slope,” said Malaj.

According to Malaj, the biggest issue with the new government is the fact that it doesn’t have any political representatives, including the new minister of finance, and former-chair of the directorate of taxation, Delina Ibrahimaj, who he argued was simply a politically appointed individual, instead of a true professional.

Malaj added that the economic policies instated by the Rama administration have been wrong, starting from the overly harsh fines all the way to favoring a limited group of people that are close to the political arena.

“All levels of power are positioned in a way that serves and caters to Rama. Public funds are put to the disposal of the least amount of hands and the least amount of politicians and oligarchs that only keep on wearing down our economy,” said Malaj.
