5 employees of the Local Inspectorate for the Protection of the Territory, part of Saranda’s City Hall, have been discharged under allegations of “Not meeting and complying with their functional duties – done in a repetitive way leading to damaging consequences”.

Sources close to Saranda’s municipal offices inform Euronews Albania that the reasons behind these five job terminations were illegal developments constructed in and around the city, especially in Ksamil.

This comes after several arrests were also carried out yesterday, in the Municipality of Himara. However, all these measures are part of a more extensive nationwide action being taken against illegal developments and construction.

These actions were preceded by the declarations of PM Edi Rama stressing that especially in coastal areas, illegal buildings will not be tolerated.

Meanwhile, on May 14th, Ajet Zyberi was appointed Director of the National Inspectorate for the Protection of the Territory, substituting the previous Director, Dallendyshe Bici.

Mrs. Bici was terminated from the post, after running for MP in the general elections of April 25th. She wasn’t able to win in the district of Tirana, but shortly after the elections was appointed Deputy Minister of Defense.

In addition, Zyberi comes from the ranks of the Police Task Force, whereas earlier he served as Chief of the Police Department of Korca.
