Fredi Beleri, the elected mayor of Himara, who was also elected as a member of the European Parliament from Greece’s New Democracy party, participated online in a meeting held with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

The meeting was held among the 7 elected MEPs from the New Democracy party and Prime Minister Mitsotakis to coordinate activities for the European Parliament.

In addition to Beleri and Vangelis Meimarakis, who were online, the elected MEPs Giorgos Aftias, Eliza Vozemberg, Eleonora Meleti, Manolis Kefalogiannis, and Dimitris Tsiodraswere physically present.

Also participating in the meeting were the Minister of State Akis Skertsos, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alexandra Papadopoulou, and the Secretary of International Relations and the European Union of ND, Tasos Hatzivassiliou.

Beleri has been imprisoned in Albania since May 12 of last year on charges of vote buying and, for this reason, has not been able to take the oath as mayor of Himara.

To participate in the meeting with Mitsotakis, Beleri obtained permission from the Special Anticorruption Structure (SPAK), which was approved.

In the European Parliament elections, Beleri received nearly 234,000 votes, ranking fourth among the seven MPs elected from the New Democracy party.

The New Democracy party of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis achieved a convincing victory in the 2024 European elections, garnering 28.31% of the votes.

According to official figures released by the Ministry of the Interior, SYRIZA–Progressive Alliance came in second with 14.92%, PASOK–Movement for Change was third with 12.79%, while Hellenic Solution with 9.3% won the “battle” with KKE(The Communist Party of Greece) (9.25%) for fourth place.
