The price of electricity is expected to decrease from February 1. Since 2014, households pay in their monthly bill the kilowatts used at the price of 9.5 Lek without VAT or 11.4 Lek with VAT, and the price has remained unchanged despite the ups and downs produced by crises or good management within a decade.

But, the government thinks that with the increase of local production, receipts and reduction of losses in the network, today it is possible for the price to decrease.

In order to realize this possibility, the final decision will be taken by the Energy Regulatory Authority (ERA), which is reviewing the application that OSHEE has brought, for the new Retail price for Universal Service Customers.

Euronews Albania learns that the price reduction will affect only the category of family consumers, while businesses and institutions will continue to pay today’s price.

The decision that ERA will take will cover the period from February to December of this year, while the new price will be set within this week. The change in the tariffs that families pay for electricity was announced by the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Bleinda Balluku, on the first day of 2025.
