The rise in prices in September moderated as inflation eased to 1.9%, the lowest since October 2021, when markets collapsed due to the Russia-Ukraine war.
According to INSTAT, a year ago it was 4.1% and today it has reached the levels that the Bank of Albania also aims for, for a healthy progress of the economy. Compared to the month of August, the prices of consumer products have increased by 0.6% on average.
Looking at the commodity groups, books and school supplies, clothing, furniture and alcoholic beverages have an inflation rate of 3.5 to 4.6 percent, while food is 2.7 percent.
Meanwhile, the difference in the general level was made by the prices of transport, namely cars and their repair at the mechanic, which fell by 4.5%.
In the budget of Albanian families, food constitutes the group of goods where the largest part of the income is spent, up to the level of 40%.
Inflation below the 3 percent level makes further tightening of the monetary policy by the Bank of Albania unnecessary, which may gradually lead to the reduction of interest rates.
