Family doctors in all outpatient clinics across the country conducted over 8.9 million visits during 2024.

The report prepared by statistical experts on outpatient visits and hospital admissions revealed that the number of visits to family doctors decreased by 3.1% compared to 2023. The elderly remain the most frequent users of this service. Meanwhile, hospital admissions increased by 4.8%.

Based on the report’s data, 299,318 patients were hospitalized during the year. Considering that the public health system has 8,911 beds available, bed occupancy was calculated at 176.7 days, which accounts for 48.4% of the calendar days of 2024.

Unlike 2023, it was observed that in 2024, patients stayed in the hospital for an average of 4.7 days, a shorter duration than in the past five years.

In hospital services, a total of 65,302 surgical interventions were performed throughout the year—an increase of 0.4% compared to 2023.

Across Albania, there are 65 hospitals in total, of which 41 are public and 24 are private.
