Tourism has continued to tempt foreigners to travel to Albania even during the winter months. After December of last year, this January seems to have seen an increasing trend, with the number of foreigners entering Albania being 29.8 percent higher than January of the previous year.
The Institute of Statistics (INSTAT) published the official figures of citizen movements for January 2024, thus confirming what was declared a few days earlier by the Ministry of Tourism and Environment.
Specifically, according to INSTAT, “In January 2024, the number of Albanian citizens entering the Albanian territory is 540,415. This number has increased by 18.4%, compared to January 2023. The number of foreign citizens entering the Albanian territory is 489,599. This number has increased by 29.8%, compared to the same period in 2023”.
INSTAT estimates that the entries of Albanian and foreign citizens into Albanian territory in January 2024 are 1,030,014.
“This indicator shows an increase of 23.6%, compared to January 2023. The exits of Albanian and foreign citizens from the territory of Albania during January 2024 are 1,217,684, marking an increase of 27.5%, compared to the same period one year earlier,” says the INSTAT publication.
Specifically focusing on the exits, INSTAT notes that Albanians who left Albania during January are 644,768.
“Compared to January 2023, this indicator has increased by 18.9%. The exits of foreign citizens from the territory of Albania during January 2024 are 572,916. Compared to the same period one year earlier, this indicator has increased by 38.8%”.
Europeans seem to be the ones continuing to have the highest influx of visitors in January 2024. Specifically, 475,563 citizens entered from Europe, followed by America and East Asia and the Pacific, with 8,867 and 2,157 citizens, respectively.
“In January 2024, compared to January 2023, the entries of foreign citizens show: an increase for personal purposes by 30.2%; an increase for vacation, visiting relatives, etc. by 30.7%; an increase for business and professional purposes by 8.8%,” emphasizes INSTAT.
