INSTAT Report: Road Accidents on the Rise, 952 People Injured in the First Half of 2026

Albania’s roads continue to witness a growing number of traffic accidents, resulting in hundreds of injuries and loss of life.

According to INSTAT’s latest report, 679 road accidents were recorded during the first six months of 2026, leaving 952 people injured, including some who later died from their injuries.

The statistics show that the number of road accidents increased by 6.8% compared with the same period in 2025.

June recorded the highest number of accidents, with 132 road crashes resulting in 186 people killed or injured, compared with 107 accidents and 140 casualties in June 2025.

According to INSTAT, 93.9% of the accidents recorded in June were caused by driver behaviour. The 35–44 age groupaccounted for the largest share of drivers involved in road accidents, representing 28% of the total.

Tirana recorded the highest number of road accidents during the first half of the year, with 277 incidents and 345 people killed or injured. It was followed by Lezhë with 74 accidents and Vlorë with 67.

One in four accidents occurred between 7:00 p.m. and midnight, while Tuesday was the day with the highest number of accidents, accounting for 18.9% of the total. Thursday recorded the lowest incidence, with 7.6% of all reported cases.
